About us

The people behind Fire Suite Pro, Fire Passport and the Insights articles.

We work on residential blocks and buildings, care homes and other premises for managing agents, residents’ management companies, freeholders and operators: fire risk assessments, fire door and compartmentation surveys, fire strategies, height and storey assessments and relevant defect advice for higher-risk buildings, and the building surveying work that follows from them, including specifications and contract administration.

Who we are

Mark Blooman is a Chartered Building Surveyor, certificated to Level 4 in fire risk assessment. Mark writes the Insights articles and built Fire Suite Pro and Fire Passport.

Our fire engineer is a Fellow of the Institution of Fire Engineers with a degree in Fire Engineering, served in the Fire and Rescue Service specialising in fire safety, and was responsible for fire safety at the British Council.

Between us, a building is looked at both as a structure, how it was built and to what standard, and as a fire engineering problem: how fire and smoke will behave in it and how people get out.

How we assess

Our assessments of blocks of flats follow BS 9792:2025, the code of practice for fire risk assessment in housing. An older building is judged against the standards it was built to as well as current guidance, so that improvements are recommended where the remaining risk justifies them.

Why we built the apps

What was available lacked integration. Most of it did not comply with BS 9792, and little of it helped assessors work consistently with one another. Fire Suite Pro does it differently.

It lets organisations manage a portfolio and assessors manage a building. Alongside the fire risk assessment it already covers fire door and compartmentation surveys, fire strategies, care homes, higher-risk building height and storey assessments, relevant defects and fire insurance valuations, and it will keep expanding.

It integrates with Fire Passport to give a risk management suite that is free to managers and saves thousands of pounds a year in software charges. Together they are building a management ecosystem in which managers keep their logs, stay compliant, order works and run section 20 consultations automatically, and it talks to the assessors. Both apps are published by Blaze Squad Ltd.

How we write

The Insights articles are written for managing agents and Responsible Persons, not for fire engineers. Each one quotes the law or guidance it relies on and links to the source, so you can check what it says for yourself. They are general information about the law in England, not advice on your building.
